The PS3 can't handle New Vegas, or ready any Bethesda game from that time. Keep your saves under like 5mb, as if you go over that it'll start causing a lot of issues. Don't use Laser or Plasma weapons, as the game won't remove the bodies of those that have been disintegrated or goo-ed. That's really all the advice I have.
In new Vegas, once I got to about the halfway point in lonesome road, I would take two steps, and it would freeze. With fallout 3, once I got to the end of broken steel, my game would crash immediately upon startup. I have up and went to PC. didn't even bother with skyrim. I basically only use my PS3 for MLB 12 the show now.

On the PS3 equipping the sniper rifle can cause the weapon hotkeys to stop functioning, and the game to crash shortly thereafter on attempts to sleep, save, enter a new area, or just walk around the map for a minute or so. Sometimes changing the color of the interface can cause the game to crash or lock up. Keeping the interface Amber may help
